Tomorrow, the 26th September, there is a general strike in Greece. No planes, trains, ferries, post office, schools, open or running. Even the tax office is closed. Taxi drivers are not on strike, “as they do not wish to contribute to the disaster.”
September 26th is also the anniversary of the sinking of the Express Samina ferry boat that hit the two large rocks off the port of Paros in a gale in 2000 at around 10pm. The two rocks are known to sailors all over Greece as the “Portes”, the doors to the harbor of Paros. They are large, spectacular rocks. I was here that night staying at Yria Hotel, behind Parosporos beach, which is where the ship finally went to the bottom after slowly drifting from the rocks. If you google Express Samina, you can read about the ship, it NEVER should have happened.
