Athens Acropolis Museum

The new Acropolis Museum opened in June 2009. It was not without controversy to plan and build this museum. I visited the first time in September 2009 and again this past Tuesday. It is, without a doubt, my favorite place in Athens. It is located above ancient ruins, which can be seen through the glass floors both inside and outside. Some areas of excavation are exposed outside and there is an ancient well to toss a coin in. The outdoor cafe on the third floor faces the Parthenon. The fourth floor is a life size replica of the Parthenon frieze, with some original marbles, and some plaster — waiting for the British Museum to return the originals.
