Refugees in Greece

This is from The Telegraph. Refugee plays piano for first time in three years after Ai Weiwei brings instrument to Idomeni camp.

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei arranges for Syrian Nour Al Khzam, who is trying to reach her husband in Germany, to play at the Idomeni refugee camp.

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei filmed a Syrian refugee playing a piano in the middle of a migrant camp on Saturday. At Idomeni camp on the Greek-Macedonian border, the dissident artist set up a piano in the middle of a muddy field and invited aspiring Syrian pianist Nour Al Khzam, from the city Deirez Zor, Syria, to play it.

The young woman is currently trying to get to Germany where her husband has been living for 18 months. Ai Weiwei told journalists that she had been studying piano but had to stop because of the war in Syria.

He also said that it was more than a performance, it was “life itself” and showed that “art will overcome the war”.  Ai Weiwei has been working on a number of projects with refugees across Europe, also spending time on the Greek island of Lesbos.

For those of you who are not aware, the Northern borders of Greece have been closed, not by Greece. The refugees are not able to leave Greece. They are stuck in the camp at Idomeni, Greece. This is a European Union disaster.
